Eco-Friendly Self-Cleaning Kitty Box: The Ultimate Answer

As a cat owner, we accept all of the responsibilities that come along with having our beloved furry creature in our family. We know they will stomp all over our paperwork or computer when they want attention, will race around the house chasing heavens-knows-what and will stalk every bird or squirrel that they see through the screen. One of the challenges that we have, however, is how to have a kitty box that doesn’t cause odors and yet gives our kitty a healthy area to ‘do their business’. A clean cat box is essential to avoid bladder infections for all cats. Every Vet will tell you that bladder infections due to poorly cleaned cat boxes is one of their biggest health problem reports from cat owners. Doing the chore of cleaning the box can be a nasty job and sometimes, no matter how fastidious you are, there are still lingering odors. In our case, our kitty wouldn’t go in those covered boxes and, try as we might, she still scratched kitty litter all over the floor and I was constantly using brooms, dust pans and natural organic scented sprays to clean the floor. We finally made the decision to purchase a self-cleaning cat box that was eco-friendly. I did this begrudgingly, because the first product that came out on the market years ago was absolutely horrible: it didn’t perform as promised, scared the cat, wasn’t eco-friendly and ultimately was a waste of money. Thank heavens we hadn’t donated our former kitty box! Starting out as a skeptic means that a product has to perform well. I was pleasantly surprised that it was so quiet and it activated with a touch on the rim! Our cat, having been used to her previous box, actually took to it quite well. Although the manufacturer suggested that we use plastic grocery bags, I opted for the biodegradable litter bags that I got at our specialty store. I also use corn husk based kitty litter so that I know everything will biodegrade well. It’s well designed and the best part is: no more mess on the floor!
